Recently I have been getting an error message, “Last encountered error:Invalid file signature. Setup will terminate.” when I try to update avast. First it happened on and off and when it did happen it only took a few tries to get the update. Then, a few days ago, it just would not update, the same message “Last encountered error:Invalid file signature. Setup will terminate.” appears. I uninstalled/re-installed and the problem persists. Anyone?
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
I am not able to find where to post this issue, so here it is. I too have recevied a message from Avast today at 2:49pm. It said that program update failed and that his is due to " a broken package".
I did update myself and changed all update settings to Automatic. They seemed to be so in the past.
The log viewer does not show my mannual updates.
If I need to uninstall and reinstall Avast on my Windows Vista, please explain how to boot a computer.
Does this mean that my Avast program is no longer protecting my computer? Does Avast monitor this situation? Thank You, athome34GBK
So ensure you have the latest VPS and that should be corrected.
Better still avast5 has been out for seven months now I suggest that you download it and install it if you aren’t on avast5 already as you don’t mention what version you are using in your post (essential).
However, if you only experienced this today and you have avast5 (which type, free/pro/AIS) - Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Thank you for your response. I am using the Avast free 4.8 version. On 11/08/2010 I performed two manual udates, the first from 100811-0 to 11-1 and the second from 11-1, to 11-2. I did a second manual udate because the first did not appear in my log viewer. Nor did the second.
On 12/08/2010 at 12:44am I generated VRD (GVRD). It was sucessful and showed on my log viewer. Finally at 4:20:22am the virus data base
( VPS 100812-0 ) was automatically generated and is showing on my log viewer. I hope this solves the problem with the failure to udate and broken package issue. Am I correct? Will go to Version 5 soon. athome34GBK
It should be resolved (other topic links I gave conform this), as the problem was in avast 4.8 VPS update 100811-1, corrected by the issue of avast 4.8 VPS update 100811-2.
