Cannot watch youtube with firewall in whitelist mode

Hi all, i am hoping someone can help out here.

I have an Iconia 501, rooted.

with the whitelist mode in the firewall i cannot watch a video on youtube, either in a browser or in the you tube app. i have allowed the app so it connects, but when trying to watch the video i get a cannot connect to server error.

i had a similar issue with the market app not downloading but i discovered you need to allow the downloader group as well as google services framework, accounts and network location ( done through the app manager part of avast so i dont eallow the syncing programs in the group in the firewall list ).

but even allowing that whole group i cannot connect to the youtube video server.

Any ideas on what else has to be whitelisted would be muchly appreciated.

cheers

Hello,

like the Android Market, other apps require Android built in services to access the internet too.
Therefor I recommend you only to deny internet access to apps you are sure you know they don’t need it.

Yes, YouTube is using Google service framework and media server, so you have to get these on the whitelist too.

Ahh, media server was the missing link.

Thanks Jan. ;D
