Hi
This morning, when turning on the pc, avast (home ed) detected some kind of worm.
I chose delete and to just repeat since I have never had problems with this option before.
Now I can’t boot >:( . The pc keeps taking me back to the boot option (safe mode etc…)
Apparently, it deleted somethings from the system folder.
There should be some sort of message.
corrupt or missing filename. etc.
You have been lucky until now I guess, ALWAYS move to the chest or quarantine first. then do some research.
ALL programs have false positves.
You may have been infected with something that got into an essential windows file.
who knows.
since we don’t know what it is.
But I would imagine if you quarantined it you may still have this same problem.
Unsure.
avast has a default option to check digital signatures of the files, avoiding detection (false) of system files. Which file are you missing? Which is the error message on booting?
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
