Ugh…not good…where does it stop now when you try to boot ?..I assume not on aswrvrt.sys.
Any chance to get into Safe Mode now ?
Does it load if you only have the old RAM in the slots
Good thought…plus, OP mentions “it crashed with 12GB”.
W7 64b Home Premium allows for up to 16GB but 12GB can be an odd config…meaning not sure how OP’s system is setup for banks, addressing, dual channel, etc…perhaps for example OP has original 4GB (2 x 2GB) and added 8GB (2 x 4GB)…if so I’d do some reading on the PC’s ability & slots for using this config…but first I’d try Essexboy’s thought and see if original 4GB works.
If it does then I’d read your PC’s manual on valid memory configs but if it was me I’d go with the 8GB in dual channel mode or get another 8GB and get to 16GB.
Well, put the two 4 GB in the correct slots…I had messed up the dual channel layout. Dumb.
Reinstalled Windows 7, and so far it’s rock solid. Lost some data but learned alot.
Thanks for all the help and advice! Makes me love Avast even more…it was a ram thing in the end but you guys sent some good love my way, as volunteers. May your positive karma return to you. ;D
Glad you sussed it out
