can't browse internet and update avast

Hi all

i am new with avast product, i just installed it yesterday, i was using other AV product before, but after reading some good review abut about avast, i decided to switch to Avast free product,honestly i still little bit confuse with the look of avast. (DVD player)

ok, now my problem is, just after installed avast i can’t browse the internet and i can’t update avast, why this happen? the only way i can surf the internet is by disabling the on access protection, anyone here could help me to solve this problem?!

What were you using before?

Several security suites can leave components which block avast! even after they have been uninstalled, and it’s necessary to run an special tool from the software author to remove these, but we need to know which you were using first.

i was using Avira Antivir Premium.

Hmm… It’s usually a firewall component that causes problems.

What firewall do you have now? Have you had any others installed in the past?

Just confirm that you did uninstall Avira?

thank you, yes it was firewall setting, now the problem solved. i can surf the internet and update avast. thank you very much, i use Online Armor Firewall

If anyone can help, I was running McAfee and just installed Avast. I restarted my computer and now if Avast is running, I can’t use the internet. I am on windows vista, what should I do?

You should be really starting your own thread.
However, short fix which will probably work, and if it doesn’t, then start a new topic in this forum.

Download the McAfee Removal Tool.
Uninstall McAfee via the control panel.
Run the tool.
You may possibly need to reinstall or repair Avast afterward.
Check that the Vista firewall is turned on.

hi,
my friend had the exact same problem. hes using norton antivirus. when it got expired, i suggested using avast and he did so. he forgot to uninstall norton before avast. upon booting the pc, avast could not connect to the web. crazy thing is that he can acces the web via the admin but not in the guest nor in the new limited user. he is using vista.

we had the norton uninstalled but the problem still remains.

were using wireless internet.

i also noticed that the wireless connection icon on the left down corner near the clock is missing in the guest. it is there in the user but connection is still buggy and its there on the admin and connection is ok. but even in the admin, connection to yahoomail is almost non existent

i hope you can help us fix this

What you need to do is run the Norton removal tool

Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Then try a repair of avast! through the control panel.
