While trying to update some firmware on a router today I got false positives for an app used in the process (a telnet & tftp app from a well known hardware manufacturer.) I was able to restore the item from the chest but I discovered no modifications I make to any of the Actions settings will be applied after clicking OK. For example, I cannot change “Move to Chest” to “Ask”. I can’t modify any Actions for any Shield in Avast. I’m using the latest free version (8.0.1483) with the latest engine and definitions. OS is Windows 8. I can’t find any documentation of this being a feature locked out of the free version or a known bug.
Any idea of what’s going on here?
Trying repair and if that doesn’t work a reinstallation per support staff suggestion.
*edit - Repair did nothing. On to safe mode and the uninstaller. If it doesn’t resolve it I’m going to have to switch to another AV. Just noticed its doing the same thing on my other system. I’m not going to waste my time troubleshooting this anymore.
Good bye Avast. Glad I decided to test before buying.
I ran the repair and it progressed without any errors. Still broken though. Looks like whatever the cause it’s affecting all my systems. Win7 x64 and Win8 x64. Macbook Pro, a few workstations and a HP Envy. Not a lot in common across all of them except things that shouldn’t be an issue like Dropbox, java and flash.
I have dropbox on both my systems and no problem relating to that, JAVA I got rid of too much of a security hassle (if you absolutely have to use/need it), same, same on flash activeX and plug-in variants on both my systems and no issue there.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).
Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
geez I’m not alone… I created an account here just to tell I’m having exact same problem. windows 8 pro x64 admin account and I can’t make any changes, it always goes back to default everytime I change something and click ok. I also thought it was a limitation for free users but now I’m guessing it’s more of a bug. already tried repair and clean install same results.
