Can't clean or move...

Hi,
I’m new on this Forum. I tried to work w/Avast on my own, but last check in of my PC I gave up. Found a lot of error messages, others that said something looked quite like a Virus (???), etc. Could’t move those to Chest. Why? Because they wouldnt. Couldnt delete most of them either, and those which I did delete, God knows why it happened. I mean, I’m tottaly lost, here. My PC is behaving strange: sometimes it “locks”, others it just frozes - is it a virus sign? Pls don’t answer “yes it is” without telling me what to do! And tks for your patience.
Marcia

We can’t tell you what to do based on your post, in order to help fully we need more information…

  • What Operating System are you using? is it up to date ?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!) ?
  • What was the virus name, what was the file name, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem ?

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

Hi unadonna06…

First, can you tell us what some of these “error messages” say? What are the name(s) of the virus(s) being reported and what files have been deleted?

Second, What version of Windows are you running?

Third, go here and conduct an online scan:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Please give us the results.

Best regards…

Thank you a lot, Ard, I’ll go first of all at that adress you sugestted, then I’ll collect all the information asked and post then later. I’m near panic - but maybe, w/God help, it’ll be nothing so serious. Let’s hope.

Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

Access denied means, generally, that the file is in use by another process (program) and cannot be repaired/cleaned/moved/handled by avast!

 Hi Marcia :

It sounds like you may have something other than a
"virus"; therefore, it would be helpful if you told us the
name(s) of any antiSPYWARE program(s) you have and
what their scan result(s) show !? Do you have an
  anti-TROJAN program and/or a firewall ?
