Hi … I’m real new to avast , actually I bought this new hp computer and got 60 days free protection from Norton.That is over and I choose Avast to protect my new investment. I’m running in a bit of a problem when I want to have the latest updated files to get the best protection. My computer is on line part of my home network and I get everyting I should on the net ( but I have to turn off a web shield, part of Avast ???) I have to tell you I run a french version on a french vista 64 bit system … and you guest it !!! I’m french too so I might not call some things exactly like you would due to the free translation that occurs.
Like I was saying I can get on line … but cant get any virus file updates, apparently due to the fact that I’m offline ??? I get a message after a few second of trying to connect that reads something like this …
Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.
The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
Only after that we can see if Norton remains aren’t blocking avast update
Norton is a real pig to get rid of even if you uninstalled it, it can still gum up the works. So run the tool suggested by Tech.
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update (right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, iAVS Update), this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
