Can't connect ot server to update virus definitions

I am receiving a message at the bottom right of my screen saying my virus definitions are out of date. When I hit the update the process stops at ‘can’t connect to servers’. Strangely, when I open the software it says everything is up to date and functioning.

I have just installed Windows 10 though I think this was happening prior.

Can anyone help?

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.
