Cant connect to internet through authenticated proxy

I am having trouble and would appreciate help. When I connect to the internet with websheild on I can access the ‘local’ internet (on the uni server, unmetered use) but cannot access the internet, when I try to go to the internet the popup asking for my username and password doesn’t come up, so it doesn’t get it and I get “internet explorer cannot connect to webpage”. Turning webshield off allows the popup to come up.
I have Windows XP SP2
2.8GHz Pentium D
1G RAM
170GB HD
64Mb Internal Graphics.

What are the settings for the webshield?

Basic
enabled: web scanning, intelligent stream scanning,
redirected http ports 80 (I belive the internet may use 8080)
no ignored adresses
ignore local communication
Web Scanning
Scan all files enabled
Exceptions, I havent added any
URL blocking disabled
Advanced, No detailed info or silent mode

If the uni uses a proxy (8080) to connect to the internet, you could try adding 8080 to the redirect ports, e.g. 80,8080 notice the comma, it must be used to separate multiple ports.

I don’t know if you also have to uncheck the, ‘Ignore local communication’ option, try it without changing it if it doesn’t work, uncheck the option and try again.

If you use a proxy on port 8080 you must add 8080 to the redirect ports AND uncheck the ‘Ignore local communication’ option 8)

Thanks, got me working perfectally, I added 8080 and unchecked “ignore local traffic”

You’re welcome 8)

No problem, glad we could help.
