Cant connect to internet

Hello, im new to running Avast, ive just installed it and it is one of the best anti-virus progams i have ever used. The problem is that when I used Internet Explorer, i cant connect to anything. I can only connect when the Web Shield is off. Now when I use my other internet browsing program it does fine.

I have DSL and no firewall.

Also I cannot connect to update whether the Web Shield is off or on.

Are you sure you have no firewall as this sounds like there is something blocking ashWebSv.exe and avast.setup ?
This however, is strange because you say you can connect with your other browser. What is your other browser ?

What errors are you getting ?

Are you able to send and receive email ?
The ashMaiSv.exe has to get out too and if that is able to connect.

What Operating System are you using ?

What is your motherboard ?
The reason I ask is some come with a built in firewall, Asus and possibly Gigabyte.

With DSL you will probably have a router/modem incorporating a firewall, certainly for inbound and possibly for outbound connections.

here is my DxDiag hopefully it will help

my other browser is from my internet connection, SBC

i just got the same problem!
i cannot connect to the internet explorer unless i stop On-Access Protection…
whats the problem with that?

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
  • Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?

Have you not followed the advice given to the original poster ?

Unfortunately not, as there is nothing about a motherboard or router that may have a firewall and possibly be blocking avast.

But what is that browser called or based on (IE Clone, I don’t know what SBC is) ?
If it is an IE clone it uses the IE core code but with a slightly different interface, so if it is an IE clone then IE should also work as it is using the same underlying code.

What about the other questions, any error messages, able to send and receive email, without information we are left to guess and that isn’t good for you or us.
