Can't connect to the inernet

Once I download Avast 4Home I can no longer connect to the internet until I uninstall it then I am fine,… I have installed it on 2 different occasions in case I agreed to something the first time but the results are the same… I have no AV or firewall currently loaded when I tried to install… I have Win XP home with all the updates…

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Hello,
What browser are you using ?

hello gina and iso-g i would also like some help with the same topic as i downloeded avast last night with the same effect,i can only connect using the shortcut to my broadband connection, then i am able to view web pages only if i turn off resident protection…this cant be good can it? i use internet explore and xp home edition sp2…cheers

Do you use any firewall?
Do you use any proxy application (like an annonimizer)?

XP has a build in firewall which could be running
If it is, make sure that avast has permissions there.

Ok, Eddy, but XP firewall is only for inbound…
The user cannot connect, the outbound is blocked…
Am I wrong?

I had the same problem after my Avast automatically updated to 4.7. I narrowed it down to the Ad\vast Web Scanner. If you disable it you can access the internet through windows explorer.

Windows Explorer 6.0
XP Pro 64

just thought i’d let you know that i resolved my problem. i had an old copy of AVG installad that i had forgotten about and after removing that everything was fine, i didnt realise that antivirus programs could conflict with each other :-[

Well, tons of users have WebShield enabled… it’s not the problem when it’s well configurated.
Maybe if you are using ZoneAlarm Pro and its Privacy Control set to High, you could have trouble.

You have to manually configure browser to access Internet using avast! WebShield if you have Windows 98\Me. For 2k\XP it’s automatic and transparent.
To manually configure your browser see the following tutorials:
For IE and permanent connection users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy.htm
For IE and dial-up users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy_dialup.htm
For Firefox users: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ffproxy.htm

Not only there are a lot of problems and conflict than in this case, avoiding connection, could be exactly a problem caused by a driver conflct.
