Cant delete a file/folder

I have an offline disk drive, with an 8 year old folder.
when I try to delete it to FREE needed space, it keeps telling me I need administration permission.
But I am ALREADY an administrator. Why does it insist that I am not ?
I dont want to shred the whole thing, since there is stuff on there I need to keep.
When I tried to shred the folder using AVAST, it says there is an error log, but does not let me see it.

Just a guess, but maybe the drive is from a different system and the access rights are for “a different administrator” (the one on the old system, not the one you are now)…
What if you open the properties of the folder and add access rights for your account? (Or possibly go to the “Owner” tab in advanced settings and change the owner to you?)

I’ve come across a few problems like this with folders/files on an external HDD/flash drives and usually found that restarting the computer with the external HDD/flash drive still attached often solves the matter. In other words make sure the external HDD, if separately powered, is spun up before restarting the computer.

Once done try deleting it again.

BTW don’t send it to the Recycle Bin, hold Shift on the keyboard when you click on Delete and you’ll be able to delete it were it is ie. permanently delete the file without sending it to the Recycle Bin.

If that does not help it probably is a permissions issue as igor suggested.

Although I couldn’t find the same article I had to refer too once myself this thread contains pretty much the same advice I followed to resolve the problem.
