Can't delete or move files to chest in hardy heron

It said something like error occurred at deletion. One of the entries was called a decompression bomb. All the rest said “Error while scanning Error occurred while deleting:Permission denied” Actually all said that. The decompression bomb was at the end of one. Running Release 8.04 (hardy) Can someone help, I’m lost.

What are you trying to scan? /home? /root?

Entire system. I used clam av and it said 10 viruses. I have to assume its windows viruses, but it bothered me and since I am trying to get my kids and wife to use Linux instead of windows. Hope that helps

Hallo,
decompression bomb does not mean necessarily “virus” - basically, it’s any archive with suspiciously high compression ratio.
permission denied means that the file is protected by read-only permissions in its parent dir or belongs to some other user.
use chmod from terminal, or run avast under root, BUT first, check what kind of file it is.

Scanning root with Clam produced a lot of false positives for me too.

You should really just scan your home directory (user/home).

Ubuntu security prevents malware getting into the root directory (not that there is any that you need to worry about as a home user.)

You may find some Windows malware in /home but it won’t be active.

I have to stress that Clam and avast! are likely to make false detections if scanning root. Running them as root would allow you to delete these files and screw up your system: don’t do it!
