Can't disable/enable shields

Aster updating Windows 10, i got a Windows alert/“action center” message warning that Avast and Windows defender were both turned off. However, Avast still showed up in the system tray as running, and when I opened it, it looked fine.

SoI tried right clicking on the Avast icon, “Avast shields control,” “Disable for ten minutes” (intending to try disabling then re-enabling). Then I got a pop-up warning, and selected “yes” that I really wanted to disable. But when I went to “Avast shields control” afterwards, I still saw the same disabled options, and no enable option. I tried disabling a couple more times, and the same thing happened.

As I was writing this, I went back to the shields control submenu again. This time the submenu included "Enable all shields (4 disabled) – so I selected that, but when I checked it afterwards, it still showed “Enable all shields 4 disabled).” Tried that a couple more times too, but it’s the same.

When I open Avast and look at Components, it shows File Shield, Behavior Shield, Mail Shield and Web Shields as off, but I can’t turn them back on, even after running Avast as administrator…

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
