Can't do a BOOT TIME scan

Avast 4.8 running with windows 7 home.
I just installed avast and I can not schedule a boot time scan. The option is not available in the menu, it’s grayed out.

This is likely to be an indication it isn’t available as it isn’t available (currently) on 64bit OSes.

So what is your OS, Win7 64bit (though I’m not sure the Home version has a 64bit version) ?

It sure does as I’m running it.

Thanks Kenny, looks highly likely that is his problem then.

Hello i’m having the same problem.
When I installed windows 7 64 bit the boot time scan wasn’t available anymore.

Avast home is working, but i aint got the boot time scan.

For the reason I stated in my first reply the boot-time scan isn’t available in 64bit Operating Systems.

It is being worked on for the new avast version, not 5.0 but likely to be in avast version 5.1.

Hi, So I am also running avast! 4.8 pro. I have a workstation key that dosen’t expire for liek 2 years. I’m also having the problem with windows 7 64bit. So when avast updates to say 5.1 will I need a new license key? or will it just update with they key i have from 4.8 to 5.1? TY aany help is appreciated.

First, you should upgrade or do a clean install to the latest version of 5.0.594 since the support for 4.8 will end at the end of this year. You can either do an upgrade, or since you are already having a problem with doing a boot scan, try a clean install.

Do do an uninstall of Avast and CLEAN install:

  1. Save a copy of newest version of Avast (5.0.594) for the version you need and save it to your HDD:
    Prohttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
  2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (uninstall version 4.0 from the drop down menu).
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Uninstall Avast through “Add/Remove Programs”.
  5. Boot into Safe Mode and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
  6. Reboot twice.
  7. Clean your computer up (clean up cache, etc.).
  8. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot twice.
  9. Get Internet access and update Avast definitions.
  10. Register your copy or add the license key for Pro.
  11. Reset your settings, if needed.

On-line registration is very simple and it’s the preferred method for all users of Avast Antivirus 5.0 installed on a computer with standard Internet connectivity. To perform on-line registration, follow these steps:http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=459
