For some time I’ve been trying to download 4.8 but with no success.
I’m running Vista and I’ve followed the suggested on the error message (attached)
Any ideas?
Where do you download from? From the official avast! site?
Yep, from the official site
Are you saving it to the hard disk and not trying to download and install in one action ?
Because your error message shows that you have downloaded the avast installation file and that the error is happen when trying to self extract (e.g. run the installation file) ?
It is suggesting you try downloading the file again, not that you can’t download it, but it might be corrupt.
Are you using a download manager to download the installation file ?
Yes, I’m trying to save to HD i.e. I’m selecting ‘Save’ as my download option
When I clich on the self-extractor I get the error msg
Yes, the msg says that the download may be corrupt - I’ve been attempting to download and download again for days

Do you have another web browser you can try (Firefox, Opera) ?
Or you can try to download avast! from FileHippo:
The only problem is as far as I’m aware filehippo.com and most of the other download sites only have the English version.
[i]Just my two cents but I had a similar problem on my initial download using IE and the Windows Download Manager…
So I used Firefox but it required DAP to download and I was successul… ;)[/i]

Can you ping files.avast.com page?
Can you reach it? If not, I suspect you have some trouble with HOSTS file…
Do you need further help to check this?
