Can't download Home Edition

I have a dialup connection which is automatically cut off after two hours, and I have to re-connect. As downloading takes more than two hours, I appear to be unable to acquire Avast, as when it’s interrupted like this, it doesn’t seem to recognise that it’s partly downloaded, but starts at the beginning again.

Is there any solution to this? ???

avast’s installation file is about 7.5MB so working on about 5min per MB it should only take about 35-40 mins tops and at 5min per MB is a poor download speed even for dial-up.

I would also suggest that you get a download manager that is able to continue after a dropped connection without having to start again. I’m using Star Downloader, I like it there are others.

The solution will be removing the scheduled disconnection for the dial up or what David suggested.
A download manager is a must have for dial up users (I use FlashGet). See ‘Links’ on my signature for more suggestions. Or Google
Welcome to avast forums… 8)

Download Express is another good one… no ads, no spyware to it. Its simple, and works great with IE and Firefox , and Avast scans the files after download.

If your ISP isnt disconnecting you after 2 hours purpousely (some do) … and if you are using Internet Explorer… you may want to check under Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Settings button and see if you have it set to disconnect after a period of time. As I am using cable I cannot remember at the moment the exact place that setting is :-[ :stuck_out_tongue: and am going on memory  but Im old lol

Opera (browser) has a download manager build in

It has,but resuming support is terrible. Use Download Express instead. Latest beta is really a kick ass download proggy with resume support feature and max download speed.

If you use Firefox scroll down to the bottom of the page… there is also a plugin for Firefox

HERE is a list of download managers and a little description. Keep in mind that some download managers come with malware !

Some information (or a lot of them…) are outdated…
Some is not truth anymore. So like you said, keep in mind that some download managers could come with malware 8)
