I’m running Windows 64 bit and never had a problem with Avast, but now, when I try to scan the system, I get a “Unable to start scan. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper” message. Also, when I go to the computer control panel, it shows Avast as being turned off. I try to turn it on and nothing happens. I wonder what’s up? My account is current and I just paid last month. I ran a system scan a month ago and it ran fine. I’m lost!
Just saying something isn’t working is not really helpful to find a solution to the problem.
Please provide details.
What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
Already performed a repair of avast ?
Already did a clean installation of the latest (beta) version of avast ?

If you have not tried a “Repair” of your Avast installation.
For a Repair go to Control Panel/ Programs&Features/ Avast and click Uninstall/Change.
The Avast installation options screen will appear, scroll up/down and choose “REPAIR”.
Be sure to reboot after the process is complete
Sorry, it’s Avast 10.4.2233 on Win 7 64 bit. I do have Norton on the computer, but it was never activated and hasn’t been a problem in the past. I’ll attempt to delete it. Also, I tried the repair function and it couldn’t complete the task. Still doesn’t run.

It doesn’t matter whether another Anti Virus/Security program is activated or not, there will be potential for conflict.
I recommend you use the Norton Removal Tool and follow all directions.
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us
Then see if a Repair will complete.
If not you will then require a ‘Clean Install’ of your Avast product:
Down load ‘and save to your desktop’ the Avast Uninstall Utility here: https://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
Download to your Desktop your correct Avast version from here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=178580.0
Now disconnect from the Internet
Uninstall Avast via the Control Panel
1.Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
2.Once complete reboot your system
3.Reinstall Avast
Looks like the problem is solved (I think). After going into control panel and unsuccessfully attempting to “repair” Avast Pro, I ran the “update” feature. It prompted me to reboot my PC, and now it appears to be running fine. I’ll see after the system scan that’s running right now.
Avast 10.4.2233That is a old(er) version of avast. Time to install the latest version: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179656.0
11.1.2241 is the version I just downloaded. I think it is listed as coming out in early November.

That one was released on 03 Nov 2015

Thanks… just updated (again)! I should be current now.
To avoid problems you really need to remove Norton completely.
Although you may not have it running, installed components of several av’s at the same time can cause conflicts.
Even worse, it can cause the active av to miss malware.
