Can't get free avast to install

I had free avast av on my win 10 PC. It stopped working, couldn’t get it going again so I uninstalled with the windows uninstaller and try to reinstall.
When I start the install it doesn’t get past the spinning orange load screen right at the beginning. I’ve left it for quite a while spinning but it isn’t getting any further.
Any ideas what I can do please?

do this and reboot https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB10

i assume any preinstalled or previous used AV is removed >> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

Thank you for the information.
Did this as detailed in safe mode, selecting free anti virus and default folders.
Rebooted and tried to install again but with the same problem, hangs on the orange circle loading screen.
I have been using avast for a few years, my PC was upgraded a few months back with windows 10 and I think avast was working until recently.
When I uninstalled originally I did it through windows and it looked like it removed it OK.
Anything else I can try please?

They keep making it harder and harder for the average computer user. >:(

Wouldn’t be a nasty pup if it wasn’t designed/engineered that way.

Thanks guys this fix worked.
You have been amazing, I’m really happy with the service and turn around.

For the future, it is very very important to use the AVAST removal tool in case you want to eliminate it, all others software leave traces in the PC. You can get removal tool from the avast site.

It was Lavasoft causing the problems

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version
