can't get past startup repair

I downloaded avast yesterday on my win7 laptop did updates and ran it it suggested a start up repair before windows starts up so i restarted my comp. It started the repair

but it says startup repair could not automatically repair this comp and shuts down the comp.

i have tried system restore but it says a system restore point has not been created on this comps system drive and i can’t seem to get into safe mode to get around it and unistall pressing f5 just brings up a window that says start up windows 7 or doing a mem diagnostics

how can i get around this problem.

but it says startup repair could not automatically repair this comp and shuts down the comp.
repair what....did it detect anything ?

what antivirus did you have before installing avast ?
did you uninstall it before installing avast ?

it detected a rootkit and i have avg and ccleaner and no i didn’t uninstall them

NEVER install multiple AV programs…it will give you all kind of windows errors and false positive detections
CCleaner is not a antivirus…AVG is, and should have been removed before install

it detected a rootkit
OK i will notifie the removal expert, essexboy...see if have a way around this

When the startup repair fails what cause does it give ?

if you recently attached a device to the computer such as a camera or portable music player remove it and restart your computer. if you continue to see this message contact your system admin or comp manufacturer for assistance.

i have no devices plugged in other than my wireless mouse.

this is what it says when i click view diagnostic and repair details

Fix: Win7 keep on go into StartupRepair / boot manager failed to find os loader

Solution:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE (Window Recovery Console). To do this, follow these steps:
Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
Press a key when you are prompted.
Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then clickNext.
Click Repair your computer.
Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Bootrec.exe options
The Bootrec.exe tool supports the following options. Use the option that is appropriate for your situation.
Note: If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
