Does anyone know anything about this? It has the name “Spyware Protect 2009” It seems to be trying to sell me some spyware, but the pop up windows won’t go away no matter what I do. They only happen on my account (other users on my computer don’t have them), I’ve run several virus scans and check virus databases for the supposed viruses they say my computer is being attacked, but the viruses they are citing aren’t in anyone’s database. I have updated Avast protection and installed a new pop up blocker, but nothing I do makes these three windows quit popping up. It’s even trying to use a Windows alert type box, but there are misspellings and words missing. All info for the website is unavailable. But the protocol address begins with “kaka” Can anyone help? Like soon?
The program that you reference in your post title is a scam. If avast hasn’t gotten rid of it yet, it would be good to try the usual anti-spyware/malware programs that are listed in many posts here.
One of them would be malwarebytes (MBAM), available at: http://www.malwarebytes.org
Another would be superantispyware (SAS) at: http://www.superantispyware.com
I usually use Malwarebytes. Run a quick scan and it will catch most problems… If you really need too, you can run a Full Scan.
If the problem still exists, do a google search for hijackthis and download it. Run a scan, and post the log here, and we’ll take a look at it.
Good luck!
Hi :
There is specific Info AND Removal “Instructions” at
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/remove-spyware-protect-2009 .
I was terribly amused to find a Google ad for Spyware Protect 2009 on the very page that had the removal instructions.
Thanks spiritsongs.
Not too surprising, there have been complaints about google sponsored links on searches being used by these types of scumware. So seeing them in google ads isn’t too much of a stretch as the idea of the google ads is to deliver targeted ads based on browsing. So trying to find removal instructions for the scumware resulting in an ad for said scumware is truly ironic.
But I don’t see any google ads (including this site, see image) as I have most ads blocked including several of the google domains that analyse and deliver the ads to the site.
