I have been trying to remove Win32:dialer-520 for the last 4 days and still didn’t suceed.
I need someone to tell me in a simple way how to remove this virus.
I have Windows 98 SE
I have used these antivirus so far:
Avast!(which keeps saying the memory is infested or has a bug)
Bitdefender 8 free edition
Spybot:Search and Destroy
Spyware Doctor(find some viruses but doesn’t delete since its unregistered)
advance spyware remover
ad-aware Se personal
and then i have these firewalls: Zone Alarm and tiny firewall
So far i didnt get rid of the virus. Please help me.
Two firewalls, like two resident anti-virus programs aren’t recommended as they may conflict.
There is obviously something loading it into memory, can you post the full details of the detection, check the avast log viewer, warnings section, it should contain more information. This will hopefully help detect the true file causing the problem.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode. a-Squared free
I suggest you check out http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm as is listed on the listing (and bookmark it for the future if you are considering a anti-spyware program), but ensure you have the latest version, see Note below - personally I’m a once bitten twice shy advocate and I think with your other anti-spyware programs you should be covered.
Note on Advanced Spyware Remover: Advanced Spyware Remover was listed on this page because of concerns with false positives. Testing with the latest version of Advanced Spyware Remover indicates that the problems with earlier versions have been satisfactorily resolved. Thus, we can no longer consider Advanced Spyware Remover to be "rogue/suspect" anti-spyware.

This is another tool for the armoury but not until you are in the clear Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
Im also trying to avoid formatting the computer because it would be the 4-5 time in 3 moinths and the second in 2 weeks.
This virus is really bugging me
I forgot to say this before: Everytime i start my pc it says that SHLDDR.OCX or soemthing like that is missing(in MS-DOS mode). and then it tells you to press any key to continue.
Question:
If avast!Home edition 4.7 detects and recognizes the virus…why can’t it delete it? Is it because the virus duplicates everytime?
Download smitRem.exe (you can download the latest version from here: http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1 ), and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it’s own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again — this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish — this may take a while; please be patient.
Delete Temp Files:
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.
This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there.
Delete Temporary Internet Files:
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.
I think polonus is saying that you should get the latest version of Java go to this page and download JRE6 beta http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp and remove all versions of java before installing. To update MSVM visit windows update and select custom updates
Im sorry im causing you troubles. I go on the site you gave me,then I press on “Download JRE6 Beta”. It takes about 1 minute too load and it shows you the’Page cannot be displayed’ page. What should I do?
A "Dialer" is more a "spyware" than it is a "virus"; I think
you should seek advise on the Spybot forums at :
http://forums.spybot.info or the "unofficial" Ad-Aware
forums at www.landzdown.com .
P.S. Essexboy's link to java was incorrect; it was to the
"Standard" Edition, not the latest "Special" Edition, which
is www.java.com/en .
My apologies I did not notice you had win 98, jre 1.6 will not work for that version and I can not find a link for the older version yet. OK found an old version here http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=java use 1.42
