It always stops at some point. I’ve tried Quick Scan, Standard and Thorough but all of them stop at different points. If I pause it, and then start it again, it freezes. Whats going on?
By Stops, I mean that it shows the progress bar at some percentage and the number of files scanned doesn’t change, but no notification of anything wrong appears.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What Operating System are you using ?
Can you give us some information about your system, CPU, RAM, HDD, etc. ?
I was actually running spyware doctor at the same time, and after I closed that, I was able to run a quick scan. I think that was my problem all along. I’m trying a thorough scan right now.
On-demand I suppose…
Are you using the Spyware Doctor resident (on-access)?
Whilst it isn’t an AV as such, being a resident scanner it would certainly have an impact, if I’m going to do a third party security on-demand scan I would generally pause avast’s standard shield. This avoids any possible conflict, double scanning and would speed the overall scan duration.
So I guess it would be the same to pause other resident scanners when undertaking what is a high resource process like another on-demand scan.
