Can't get to scan incoming email

I am using Eudora (and my wife is using Netscape mail) as email clients.
It doesn’t matter what i try… I can not get Avast to scan my incoming emails . (I don’t want to scan my outgoing emails)

Help plz… How can I setup Eudora and Netscape to have incoming emails scanned by Avast??? ??? ???

I am using Win98. The only way to send and receive emails with eudora is to remove all email protection in the Avast mail wizard,

It has cost me a few days of frustration now… Help me plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thx

Ronald

You should be able to use the Mail Protection Wizard:

Start > Programs > avast! Antivirus > Mail Protection Wizard

and:

If you check the help files you should be able to find the information you need.

Start > Programs > avast antiviirus > Help

Look under Setting up Mail Protection.

First of all, what’s your mail provider ? If your mail server requires SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connections, avast! doesn’t support them. You have to use some third party applications to enable scanning (something like Stunnel - link: http://www.stunnel.org ).

Another thing… you mentioned this:

I can not get Avast to scan my incoming emails . (I don't want to scan my outgoing emails)

Is there any specific reason why you don’t want your outgoing e-mails to be scanned ? Maybe, using some other application to scan your outgoing mails ? If that’s the case, that could also lead to solution for your problem with avast! not scanning your e-mails… On the other hand, it’s not enough to protect yourself by scanning just incomming e-mails. You have to think of other people that will receive e-mails from you… so, it’s very important to scan your outgoing e-mails as well.

Cheers !

hhhmmm… Finaly… it’s working…
Found the problem but now I have another problem >:(

I am using a tool to track important emails… MSGTag. I have to send emails via that program to be able to track them… I have to set the SMTP settings to “Localhost” instead of smtp.casema.nl (my provider)
If I setup Avast using the smtp of my provider it works but I can not set Avast to send mails via this MSGTag tool. When I set the SMTP port to “Localhost” avast can’t send mails anymore…

I am missing the “Mail protection wizard” inStart → Programs → avast! Antivirus → Mail Protection Wizard.
How can i installl it?
Version 4.6 HomeEdition

Thank you

Reinhard

This is probably because you are using an OS like XP that doesn’t require it and the mail protection is transparent. Read the avast help file ‘Setting up Mail Protection’ for more information.

P.S. You should have used a new thread as this isn’t directly related, unless you are having other problems you haven’t stated in your post.

It’s explained before… if you have Windows XP you don’t need Mail Protection Wizard. Everything is done automaticaly, since mail scanning in few latest avast builds is transparent.

If you still need to access Mail Protection Wizard for whatever the reason, then search for this file in this location on your local hard drive (of course, if you didn’t change default installation folder when you installed avast!):

File name is: ashPopWz.exe

Location: c:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4
