In prior versions of Avast, if it thought it found a virus, the pop-up window had an option to allow me to ignore it and keep going. That option does not appear to exist anymore in version 5. I can delete it, move it to the chest, or have it blocked, but no other options. Can I do something to get the “ignore” option back? If so, how?
What shield? Or are you scanning?
And…why…do you
want to
download a…virus?
The option called “ignore” in avast! 4.x did exactly the same as “block” in avast! 5 (so the title was actually misleading).
So, nothing has changed, only the text has been corrected.
Sorry, file shield, when I’m scanning files.
I am not so sure block is the same. I did try selecting block, but then, while the file was still there, I could no longer access it, I always got “access denied”. In 4.x, I never had that issue after selecting “ignore”.
Well when the answer is coming from one of the senior avast developers I would say it is correct, just that the term has changed to Block, but the underlying action is the same.
Ignore never allowed you to run the application, as though it ignored, or rather took no action listed, move to chest, delete, etc. The file remained in place, but was still considered infected by avast and it wouldn’t let you run it.
Whilst the Block function does all of that, if you are saying now when you click on the file again you get an access denied, rather than avast not allowing you to run it (e.g. no action). Then that is more of an informative notice, than avast simply stopping you from running it and not saying why.
So essentially it is the same but with more information if you try to run it again. Avast will never allow you to run a file it considers infected, so you have to exclude the file to be able to run it.
Some people thought Ignore meant ignore the alert and allow the file to run and the Ignore function didn’t do that, hence the change.
