I’m new to avast & having problems getting it started. I followed the instructions in the license file email (downloading, etc.) but everytime I try to ‘Insert license file’ I get a message saying ‘No valid license content found!’
Which license did you purchase, avast internet security or avast pro ?
What is the avast version you have installed and are trying to insert the license into ?
Did you save the license.avastlic file to your hard disk ?
You would then have to navigate to that file to insert it, did you do that.
If you saved your license.avastlic file to your hard disk, then double clicking on it should have avast do the insertion.
I have internet security version 6.0.1203. I’ve saved the file to my hard disk and tried both double clicking the actual file & trying to get the program to insert the file but both keep giving me the ‘no valid license content found’ message.
I can’t seem to do anything else with avast - anything else I click on (e.g. updating) tells me that ‘The avast! service is not running’.
My computer has been rebooted several times since we first installed. We used to have McAfee which hasn’t been removed yet, although it’s no longer active - would uninstalling it help?! ???
absolutely…NEVER EVER run/install more then one AV
having more then one AV installed can/will create all kind of windows errors and false positive detections
after uninstall it is recomended to run a removal tool and reboot so all leftovers are gone
if avast still does not run after this you may try avast repair
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
If still problems try to uninstall/reinstall avast
Right, McAfee is gone! I’m still getting the ‘No valid license content found’ message when I try to insert the license though!
I tried repairing avast but got a message telling me to do a full update so I tried that & got ‘There was an error while changing the product configuration’.
Maybe I should try uninstalling/reinstalling avast!?
Sorry to ask, but just to be sure. Did you run the uninstall utility for McAfee? Better to run it under Windows Safe Mode.

There is also a Clear Removal Utility for Avast, in case the normal un/re- installing doesn’t work (from Safe Mode). But, all this should be made after running the removal tool for McAfee, and rebooting.
