I’ve been trying to install adnm on our server but every time it gets as far as SQL connection details and prompts for the servername, account and password it errors out.
I leave the server name unchanged as it is our server name. But I also tried the IP address.
The account is sa - unchanged.
The password is blank - I leave it unchanged, but also tried using the sa password for another db i.e. servername/sharepoint
The error dialogue box says “Couldn’t locate SQL server (servername). You have specified an incorrect SQL server name or login.”
Any clues anyone? Are we supposed to setup something in SQL first? If so, where are the instructions for that?
Let me be frank - I know nothing about SQL! It is installed as part of the SBS2003 R2 package. From what I have learned from many threads here, I have “discovered” instances for WSUS, Sharepoint, SBSMonitoring but nothing for Avast.
UPDATE==== I have found some screenshots (attached) of the relevant sql install routine I followed. It seems it was a named instance “Sharepoint” but with windows authentication not SQL. Does that help answer the question?
I did nothing to SQL. I just ran the Avast_no_msde.exe installer, added my 15 licenses and then it proceeded as described.
I have since tried again and when asked at the same error if I wish to continue I clicked Yes. This took me through to the tools. I tried check DB etc but ended up with the same problems as this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=20532.0 except when I “Test Connection” it fails. I also tried changing the .ini db created to 1 from 0.
When I said the sa password was blank, I meant at the prompt from the installer. I was describing what was displayed. How could I enter a password when I guess no database etc had been created at this point of the install? Or was this a prompt to “set” a password for the installer to set up?
I’ve also just noted something from another thread that may be relevant. Many months ago I installed ADNM WITH MSDE as a trial, but I only looked at the console and didn’t have time to do all the setup etc. so I just then instaled the server version and the pro version on clients. Before this install I uninstalled adnm with msde. I also deleted the data in the program files…/data folder (as suggested in another thread).
I think I have tried everything I have found in this forum but no luck. I spent six hours on this last night with no success.
I’m in deep trouble! This is a production server and I’m guessing I no longer have AV protection at present.
I’m less than impressed with the support (yes support, not forums) for a fully paid up product with 15 licenses. I spend ages noting error messages and screenshots and in reply I’m lucky if I get two sentences.
I never got this going with SQL2005. I uninstalled and went the msde route and it worked but that’s not a result in my book!
