Hi, i work at a local computer store and have been installing avast free edition for customers, telling them they need to register or purchase it if they like it… which they all have:)
Anyway… for the last few days when i install avast on a fresh format or a system that never had it before, after the reboot the resident avast doesn’t start… when you click the avast icon it comes up with a thank you for trying avast, please enter code… and wont run…
I have no problem with people registering except its like 30 machines a day… and i dont have access to all their emails:) did switching to 2005 break something?

Strange. No problems at all here in my store.
Did you change anything in the way you are installing Windows/applications?
Do you use the latest version of the Avast installer?
Did you changed to another motherboard brand/type (or other hardware)?
Do you see a error in Avast’s log file? (if so which one)
Any error(s) related to Avast in the system or event log?

Actually, yes, the year 2005 seems to have caused some troubles :-[
An updated version of the installer has been relesed, the files are just being uploaded to our servers.
Sorry for the troubles.

Just out of curiousity. Can you tell a bit more about what caused the problem?
Let me guess…
The Registration Key Generator…

Thanks igor! BTW… love the product… by far the best AV out there…
And tech, this is happening to me on all machines… all different brands… i always DL it from avast.com so i dont have to sit through updates after installing a old version:)
