I just got a new netbook. It had Norton antivirus on it. I uninstalled Norton, rebooted and tried to install Avast. But I
got a message saying. “There was an error while completing the setup process” I already have Avast on my desktop.
And it is working fine. Can someone please help me get Avast installed on my netbook?
Hi g67,
Have you tried using the Norton uninstall tool?
It can be a bit of a pig to remove.
Have a go with the nortorn removal tool:
Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista
or
Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me
Use the relevant one, and then try and install avast!

I did use the norton uninstall tool. I just saw the post by dark reality below my post. He had the same problem. I was able to install avast from the info in his post. Now I’m doing a scan. Will I have to enter a product key on the netbook installation? Can I use the same key from my desktop? Thanks spg SCOTT
Yes, you can use the same key, if this is for the Home version and your use of the netbook is for Home and non-commercial purposes.
Glad you got it working
I presume you were using the ‘universal uninstall tool’? The usefulness has been discussed before…
Regarding the license key:
If you are using the home version on both computers, then the same license key can be used for both of the installtions.
If you are using the Pro version, then you will need a separate license key for each installation.
[edit] Oops, didn’t see DavidR’s post…
All is well now. I used my licence key from my desktop computer. Thank you DavidR and spgScott for your quick and helpful reply. It’s good to have Avast back.
You’re welcome.
No problem
