Can't install avast

Win Vista get this error
“The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.” Help?

what AV did you use before ?
have you uninstalled it before installing avast ?

I had AVG before, its been removed fully. My older PC has died so im using a laptop. I could get the specs if that would be handy fo you people

Did you remove AVG using the removal tool from AVG?

have you run the AVG removal tool so any leftovers are gone ?

also, was you computer deliverd with a preinstalled AV when new ?
if so you run the removal tool for that one also

Okay. So you need to follow the below steps now…

  1. Download the Visual C++ 2008 redistributable package

    You can download it from
    hxxp://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5582

  2. Click on Save File and save it to the desktop

  3. Double click on the downloaded file (vcredist_x86.exe)

  4. Click on Run
    5)Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation process
    Try to start the Avast and update us with results…

Try to install the Visual C++ 2008 redistributable package again and update us back.

Removed the registry keys as needed, no results. same fudging error.

Why is everybody else helping when Pondus, with more experience, is already helping? ???

Why go to all that trouble when you “don’t” have all the details? ???
Wouldn’t it be better to find the cause and fix that? Then go from there? ???
