Some questions to be answered:

What Windows OS you have? What Service Pack is installed? Is your Windows OS up-to-date?
What firewall you have?
Previous antivirus prior to using Avast?
After uninstalling the previous antivirus via add/remove did you use it’s removal/uninstall utility?

I have the same issue. I have a new laptop, I’ve removed the McAfee completely using the removal utility
I have a windows 10 home OS Build 14393.1198
Why can’t I install Avast?

You don’t give us much to work with, e.g.

What errors are you getting ?
What installation method are you using on-line setup file (about 6MB stub installer) or full off-line setup file (180MB or larger) ?

After clicking the free download on the avast website I ran the setup exe file (offline I suppose)
I see the avast logo starting installation and after approx 10min it says error, when I click to see details I have the same errors than the first message shown on this post:

On the website only the on-line installer is offered.

I suggest that you download the OffLine installer from here:
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
Once downloaded, run it and follow the installation instructions.
