can't move virus to chest?

I have a win32:trojan-gen. I cannot move it to the virus chest. It says disk is full. Please help!!!I have it sitting in recycle bin at the moment.

Hi,

how much free space do you have on C: or whereever Win&Avast is installed ?

try rightclick on a drive in WinExplorer → properties → DriveCleanup (takes a while)

does a full thorough+archive Scan with updated avast show any infected files apart from the one in RecycleBin/recycler ?

if so: what virus names and what locations/folder/filenames are given exactly ?

please work through the link “VirusRemoval” below in my sig (there you’ll find further Links/Instructions)
and then:

  • post a hijackthis-Logfile here
  • scan and fix with updated SPYBOT & Ad-Aware in SafeMode (F8-Boot)
  • try OnlineScans with TREND & RAV
  • secure your BROWSER (IE) and system better

c:\systemvolumeinformation.…\A0039410.exe
c:\recycler\S-1-5-18\Dc5exe
I have 89 percent freespace.
I was never able to use the boot up scan.It doesn’t allow me to do anything when it finds something. Also I am new to this and I am not sure what to do.I was always able to put everything in the chest. Can I just delete this?

Hi,

@1) this is a folder that’s protected/locked by WIN
→ Disable system Restore and reboot, then it’ll be gone
How-To: see “VirusRemoval”-link

reenable RESTORE afterwards if you feel you need it

@2) empty your recycleBin and this too will be gone (or do driveCleanup; see above)

Most important:
apply all Windowsupdates and secure your Browser better (see “VirusRemoval”)

also please read the avast program help/documentation, the avast FAQ on www.avast.com → support
and the User’s FAQ here in the OffTopic forum

P.S.: if avast alerts you to a “virus”,

  • try repair first; but only very few types of malware can be repaired (true “viruses”)
  • if repair fails: move the infected file to chest (it’S inactive=not dangerous there) and then get some information on proper removal of the specific type of malware, e.g. here in the board or in above mentioned links

Thank you it worked.I have scanned it 5 times since and I am clean for now.I want to put a fire wall on.Had zonealarm but it started acting up and I got rid of it.I really want to protect my computer. But I am not sure what I need.I have avast of course,Ad-aware,Spy-bot which I run numerous times a day.I also tried installing the service pack2.But it froze my computer up.So I uninstalled it.Thanks for all your help.
