For some reason, I can’t find where I can open SafeZone browser after the latest update. There is no icon I can click on to open it. I have the Premier edition of Avast, and I have that installed, as there is an option to uninstall it under the components section of settings. How do I open it now?
Repair Avast:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
Just tried that. Didn’t help.
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
Windows 10, 64 bit
Build 14393.693
Version 1607
I notice under the components section of settings that there are three items that do not have the green off/on switch like the other components and they are SafeZone Browser, Security Browser Extension, and SafePrice Browser extension. These components are apparently installed, as there is an option to uninstall, but for some reason are not working.
I did find a backdoor way to open the SafeZone browser, but why is there no icon to go right to it? I right clicked on the Avast icon in the notifications area, and one of the options was to Run Bank Mode, which I clicked, and then backed out of, which opened the SafeZone browser. But I noticed that all the shortcuts I had in there previously have disappeared, as have the passwords I had stored in there. If I click on the passwords icon in the top right corner, I get, “this extension is not activated.” I have the top level Premier edition of Avast, so why do I have to pay for this? It seems this is just a backdoor price increase. Maybe I don’t see the SafeZone icon until I activate this? This is BS from Avast, and they at least should let subscribers know what’s going on with that!!!
- Download Avast Premier Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
OK, tried to uninstall Avast with the utility I downloaded, and was in safe mode as directed, but the avastclear wouldn’t execute, even when I tried run as administrator. After I got out of safe mode, I noticed a shortcut had been placed on my desktop for SafeZone browser, which now opens, but I don’t have password functionality like I had before. If I click on the password key in the upper right corner, I get a message that the extension is not activated, though when I go back to components under settings, Passwords shows under the Privacy settings under Components under Settings with the green button on. I’ve contacted Avast two days ago about the issues I’m having, but they still haven’t replied even though I’m a paying customer. Pretty sad, and I may look for a whole new AV provider real soon.
Hi,
please go to Avast UI → Privacy → Passwords. What you see? Is Avast passwords asking you for your master password to unlock existing Passwords manager or it says you do not use Passwords yet?
If your browser is running, please are there 2 AvastNM.exe processes running too? Please send me szb.log file directly, thanks.
OK, things are back to working OK, as I got stuck in Safe Mode, and I had to do a system restore to get out of it. When I restarted my computer, my old version of Avast was back, so I re-installed the new version, and the password function works now.
Did you reboot after the initial update from avast ?
Seems like the update wasn’t finished yet.
