My Avast (after installation today on Vista, 32bit) behaves in very strange way. I don’t have access to proxy settings (in Settings / Updates - after clicking on “proxy” button nothing happens) and can’t view logs (after using “view log” also nothing happens :-[ ). Could it be caused by UAC or something else? Thank you in advance for your help!
You can open this window if an update is being carried on… or an update was crashed and avast.setup stayed running in background. Kill this process (avast.setup) and try again.
Did you try running ashLogV.exe from avast folder?
Hmmm… did you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
I have tried repair and reinstall. It hasn’t helped.
However - in main program (“run Avast!” in right-click menu), everything works. From this program I could change proxy settings and see log. So, there is only problem with context menu (when I right-click on Avast icon in system tray). Strange…
And one more thing: when I start main program, sometimes after the test of system’s dlls it also looks “frozen” (process exists, 0% of processor usage, no changes in memory usage even after some time).
Log viewer works well now. I have tried to make dump file from ashSimple.exe, but after right click in task manager to do this, I have received message “The process can’t be stopped. Access is denied”. Therefore I have killed the process and run the main program once more and it has worked this time… ??? It behaves in the same way after each restart of the system.
Thank you for your help up till now!
Turning off UAC doesn’t help. However, I have managed to make dump file from “frozen” ashSimpl. I have uploaded it to ftp site mentioned by you (file name: errenay_ashSimpl.DMP).
