Can't open the Avast icon in my Windows tray

Hi:
I got a message yesterday that an update was ready on my Avast but i was busy doing something else and could not respond right away. No I have a tab at the bottom of my screen that won’t open when I click on it nor will it disappear when I want to close it, plus I can’t open the icon in my tray so I can update my Avast. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium on my PC. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.
