Can't PRINT ms word doc's while avast is running.

I can’t print ms word documents until I disable avast then they print just fine.

Any suggestions about this issue so every time I want to print a word document I don’t have to temporarily disable avast?

Thanks!!

may I call you just “101” ?

as to your issue, that’s completely weird, are you using a networked printer (plugged to your router)? if so the firewall in AIS might block it, may be check this.

My all in one is plugged directly into my computer via usb cable.

Yes you may call me 101

Which version of Office are you running ???

ok then more troubleshooting is needed, try to deactivate the behavior shield, and if that’s not enough, uninstall it (just the component) to get rid of the driver, then reboot and try again to print while AIS is active.

microsoft starter 2010 ( free ms word provided by ms )

I turned off the behavior shield and successfully printed a word doc, then I turned it back on and could still print the same doc!! lol,now what?

yeah just thinking a better option might be to add both MS word and your printer drivers to the list of trusted stuff in the behavior shield options.

Then it’s probably related to the following:

lol ok  this at least proves that the behavior shield is messing somehow… wouldn’t mind an Avast team dev to post here now

I’ve already requested that for the other thread but haven’t seen any reply from Avast.

just went through that thread very quickly… can’t think why anyone there suggested a firewall issue in the first place (as long as the printer isn’t networked), and it turns out there that the OP found out something quite similar to what I suggested today: the behavior shield is the culprit (again  )

I am reading that thread now and it’s INSANE!! lol I hope my thread does not end up like that one!! Jeeez

yeah it seems that the topic was already pretty hot on the forums, and I had no idea ;D

@ 101,
See if pausing the behavior shield will allow you to print ???

he tried that already and it worked

… and it keeps working when the BS is turned back on ;D … so a first deactivation seems to be needed anyway.

Missed it sorry. But, it at least proves your correct assumption
about the behavior shield. Great tool for catching Zero Day stuff
but, still needs refining.

I am going to restart my computer then try to print a word doc without messing with avast. brb

Ok im back, had to make a pit stop in the kitchen to make a couple ham sandwiches while the pc was rebooting  so I opened up a new word doc typed a couple characters and hit print and it printed just fine with out messing with avast BUT why do I have this feeling that later today when I come back to test print again it wont work until I disable avast. lol

It’s going to be a nice day today so look on the bright side. ;D
