After updating to build 7.0.1473 my laptop with Windows 7 x64 doesn’t fully boot anymore. The desktop suddenly freezes and I have to hard reset.
An other user recommended installing the previous build (1466) which used to work, but that version seems to have the same issue now. Which leads me to believe it’s related to the virus database. I’m a ‘updateholic’ and use my laptop daily, so build 1466 has been running OK before updating to 1473.
Not sure what to do now…
Please let me know if I’m not the only one and/or if I need to provide some more information. Thank you.
Sorry forgot to mention that. I’ve update to 1473 using the build-in updater from the GUI. After the freeze I booted into safe mode, uninstalled 1473, rebooted again in normal mode and installed 1466. After rebooting the same freezing issue occurred.
No, still doesn’t boot. Screen stays black after logging in, but the mouse does respond.
This is what I’ve tried:
Boot into safe mode.
Run cleaner
Select Avast! 7
Browsed to C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\
Pressed ‘uninstall’
Output:
Service avast! Antivirus - Removed
Resident protection - Removed
Explorer extensions - Removed
Registry - Removed
Program files - Removed
Program was successfully removed
Rebooted into normal mode and installed 7.0.1473 again. Rebooted again and BAM, freeze…
Wow, my sincere apologies! I’ve installed Malwarebytes PRO a couple of days ago and probably hibernated my laptop ever since. After disabling the PRO features, my issue is gone. Thank you all for your time.
But does this mean I can’t ever use Malwarebytes (just payed for a license) in combination with Avast? Or is this a bug?
