Can't remove notification. "you are safe!"

Hi, I just updated avast on my android to version 5.0.11 and noticed the UI has completely changed. I’m wondering if I can revert back to the old UI.
Also, I am having an issue with avast notification. Now every time after I scanned, the notification “you are safe!” in the notification bar on my phone stays there. I can’t remove it. It is very annoying. When I click on it, it just takes me to the app on the smart scan which also says “you are safe”. This also happens when I scan wifi. I tried turning off my phone and turn it back on and the notification is still there.
Is there a fix this? Is this a bug?

Hi Miki, if you want the old version, please send an e-mail to the Support (android@avast.com) and ask them for AMS 4 apk.

The notification can be turned off in the Settings, but we do not recommend it. Without the notification in the status bar the app is being killed by the Android and then we cannot guarantee 100% security.

Hi Tereza,
I was able to dismiss/clear the notifications with the older version. Did this change due to the update (why I can’t dismiss notifications)?

Hi,

some of the features don’t work properly without the notification. It’s most noticable on Android 6 where the OS is more aggressive towards apps without a notification that are trying to perform tasks on the background.

Filip

Hi again, to your question - yes, the dismiss has not been possible due to the update.

Just to be clear, if you go to Settings / Protection, you can disable the option Permanent notification, that will turn the notification off. However it’s not recommended, as Android system is then free to kill our application at any time, leaving you unprotected.

This new constant notification is really rather badly thought through, unnecessary and annoying. Especially when you have a small phone! A small icon in the top bar would suffice. I am considering uninstalling what is otherwise a good app.

Hi,

I’m not sure we understand each other. Small icon in the top bar = persistent notification.

Agreed, I was just trying to think of a way to make it smaller. Ideally no constant notification would be better!

Well you can turn it off in Settings, but certain parts of the app might misbehave (as in not work at certain times). That’s unfortunately how Android works.

Filip

That’s a shame. I wasn’t aware that there was no choice but have the constant notification. There wasn’t a constant notification in the old version before the upgrade though…

Well it was and it wasn’t, depends on the version you first installed  It’s always better to have it, but it was decided by someone that starting some version it’ll be removed for increased usability (basically what you are saying). It probably didn’t work at times, but it wasn’t that bad from my experience. Starting Android 6 the OS became much more aggressive towards apps running in background and without the notification, some of the features basically won’t work at all or will become pretty much unusable.

Filip

Thanks for clarifying this Filip.

So basically it’s Google messing up and not having an API/whitelist for virus scanners to run without risking being killed…

Or any other app for that matter, yes. I think (someone correct me if I’m wrong) that Google’s point of view is still that AV apps and such are not needed on Android, even though malware is repeatedly being found on Google Play, exploits of the system are being found “all the time” (I read about a new one literally 30 minutes ago) and so on.

I’d also like a feature to disable specifically the WiFi ‘you are safe’ notification, especially for networks already saved to my device. It’s annoying to be prompted to scan or rescan a network that I already trust, and the notification in the toolbar is annoying. Please add a feature to disable this.

In my case the notification that I can’t get rid of says that my network may be dangerous; when I tap it and go to the app it says it’s safe. This is very annoying, disturbs me every time I see it! Makes me want to find a different app.

I agree 100%, this is very very annoying . having to scan your home network over and over, its safe, one scan should be enough, either remember it safe or give me a way to disable only this notice

I am looking for something else, even if I have buy it. its better than these annoying notices all the time , for nothing

Hey guys, sorry for the inconvenience, we are working on it.

Why ruin a perfectly good app in the first place? Was it a practical joke or a children’s school project or something, and soon the proper app with AV protection will come back? When did the great Avast company stop being serious about mobile AV protection? Please, just give us the old app back while you decide which direction you are going in.
