Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

Its telling me that an in setiface has ocorred:2 and will not remove or repair or do anything elese with it. thank you

Hello,

Try to disable all of the avast! procceses by right clicking on the a icon in the task bar and clicking stop on access protection. Then go to the taskmanager and end all of the following tasks, ashDisp.exe, ashServ.exe, aswUpdSv.exe. I believe those are avast! tasks, when that is done please reboot your system. Hope that helps.

That may be somewhat difficult as oldplumber might not be able get into avast.

I heav ever used but on the last update it recived an error #2 and it will not run nor can I remove or reinstall it.

What is happening when you try to uninstall, error messages, etc. ?

After a little searching on the setiface error “a setiface error has occured: 2 contact support to reinstall” Did your error mention the “to reinstall” part?

If so, you could try a reinstall over the top of an existing installation in the hope it resolves the issue or at least let you uninstall, reboot and install clean. Not ideal, but better than a brute force deletion of the program files and trying to clean registry or using the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here, which is only recommended after using add remove programs.

It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Check this way to uninstall: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18556.msg157595#msg157595

The problem with this link is, if you can’t use add remove programs to uninstall then he can’t carry out step 1.

I posted the solution there…

If step 1 and 2 do not work, try booting in Safe Mode. If even this fails, start with the 3rd step.

I know the user can’t run by Control Panel, but, remember, in normal conditions the Control Panel should be used for a good uninstallation. I did not want to post half of the truth

Perhaps I should have reworded my post.

or using the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here, which is only recommended after using add remove programs.
