First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Why do you feel the need to do this - Do you still have Avast Installed ?
Avast’s self-defence module would prevent you from doing this.
I DO NOT HAVE AVAST INSTALLED. I uninstalled it in safe mode but forgot to disable self-defense protection. Use the app to uninstall it. I uninstalled it due to a vulnerability in the av kernel that exists.
If you downloaded and ran the Avast Clean-uninstall utility from safe mode, then all should have been removed.
If you just uninstalled Avast from safe mode and didn’t use the utility, then I think there are likely to be remnants.
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe
- Avast Removal Tool | Download Avast Clear | Avast
- and save it to your HDD. Make a note of the steps required or print the page.
That said if that registry key isn’t causing any issues (or is it) ?
Is it worth downloading and running the clean uninstall-utility program from safe mode
take ownership … right click and select permissions … give full access to everyone
Leaving it in the registry will also not harm anything

Re install avast then use the avast tool to clean and delete everything this time which it sounds like safe mode did not do.

Hello. This key is actually only a link to “parent” key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avast Software. For some reason, the link remained while the parent key has been removed. To remove the link, create an empty key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avast Software, delete the link and then the key.
Could you share log files from C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Icarus\Logs folder to help analyze the possible cause?

@Hobbitmann have you tried to create the empty parental key and then remove the linked key? If not, please follow the steps below:
A) Create the empty parental key:
- Open the Registry Editor
- Go to Equipo\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
- Right-click the key SOFTWARE and select - New - Key
- Name the new key “Avast Software”
B) Remove the problematic linked key:
- In Registry Editor, go to Equipo\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Avast Software
- Right-click and delete the linked key “Avast Software” (it should now be possible)
C) Remove the parental key:
- Still in Registry Editor, go back to Equipo\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
- Right-click and delete the parental key “Avast Software”
