Can't remove trojan

Hi, I am new to this and a bit of novice when it comes to computers so please bear with me. I was told by avast that a trojan was found. win32: trojan-gen (other).
it advises move to chest but i can’t. I saw on another post on this forum somebody advised scheduling a boot time scan but im not logged into my administrator account. shall i log in to it and then schedule a boot time scan or take some other action?

thanks

Boot time scan would be a good first plan of action, if it remains undetected/unremoved, download, install, update Malwarebytes Antimalware & run a scan.

ok but i can only run a boot time scan as an administrator so should i log off my current profile and log on as administrator? If the file the trojan came from is saved on my other profile will the boot time scan still work from the administrator account? thanks

the file is a key generator by the way, is it possible the file is not malicious and is only being flagged as a trojan because it is a keygen?

Welcome to the forums, iwouldloveit.

Keygen program will almost always be flagged as trojans since avast has no way to determine whether or not the keygen will be used maliciously.

The chance of a keygen containing (or being) malware are fairly high.
The admin account should be able to access all accounts on the computer, so running a boot scan from the admin account should do the job.
Did it say why it was unable to move the file to the chest?
What is the file name and full path?

Unlike other antiviruses, avast wont be sending an alert on keygens, cracks, patches and other piracywares unless they are really infected.
