Can't remove WebRep

I noticed that this has been discussed previously, but it didn’t appear to be resolved nor did it help me…

Using Avast Free 6.0 and FireFox 4.0
Windows ZP SP2

Recently installed Avast and decided to try WebRep. A few days ago I had trouble sending images from my gmail account but not sure that’s related…

Anyway, I removed the WebRep plugin through the Avast gui and have since rebooted and it’s still showing up in emails initiated through Gmail, which I never noticed before. I’m usually pretty adept at figuring this stuff out but this one is bothersome. It seems to be only a few emails, not all, and the word ‘webrep’ shows up along with several little boxes with red x’s in them.

I looked through the FireFox Add-on list as well as my plugin list and it’s not there. Avast shows that it’s not installed. yet it shows up in emails?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

There was another thread somewhere, similar to this. IIRC the text was added to the signature section in Gmail.
Maybe have a look there.

I’ll try and find the thread.

EDIT: This thread, though it looks slightly different to what you describe. If not the same, maybe a screenshot will help.

others are dying to get it, and you’re complaining that you can’t get rid it ??? … just joking… what you described with Gmail has been mentioned before as a bug. I don’t use web rep (at all) so I cannot help. Hope some Avast team guy will pop in here

ps: is web rep still listed in your Firefox extensions?

yeah that’s been reported before… several days may be two weeks ago or so…

Solved!

It was added to my Gmail signature file…

Sorry if this was solved previously. I really did look back for WebRep issues…just not far enough…

Yes - but is it really solved just because you’ve got rid of it - why should webrep presume to addvanything to your signature?

Another annoying thing I found was that when weprep was installed I couldn’t select ‘No signature’ under gmail settings (well, I could, but I couldn’t save the change). Uninstalled webrep and it’s fine again.

jesus… not quite sure I appreciate that Avast advertizes itself on Gmail mails, even as an option ::slight_smile:

What the heck is Windows ZP SP2 ???

painterskip,

Glad it is solved.
Would be interesting to know why webrep did this…

Also, I would think that updating to SP3 would be a good idea, it has been out a while now.

YoKenny,

Really? You had to ask? Take a look at your keyboard again, what is next to Z
Regardless, this is obvious, no?

Indeed. Just a typo there. It happens to 99% of people.

Yes.

Yokenny stop being an **** thanks, and check on the right side of that bloody “Z” key

…and it’s not an option. It’s sort of like your AV doing a minor hack of your e-mail, and leaving you to figure out how to undo it.

“X” is also next to “Z”. Just a slip of the finger there. No need for that.

okay I was surprised tbh, I think you or someone else in this thread mentioned an option.

edit: okay you meant Gmail sig settings

Sorry Ethan. :-[

Just disregard it. Sorry also. You have a good one.

You are such a good teacher at that.
