Can't run MBAM any more..

…and some other issues - but solved already:

Hi,

still using Win XP prof. X64 OS, for years now.

A few days ago, although being on AC power, laptop after some time (ca. 2 hours) started to take power also from Li-accu. So the level goes down (ca. another hour) to zero.

When taking off the battery and working only on AC power, the computer began the start menu, but breaks off. Then starts again - breaks etc.

Moreover, the computer, after switching off, re-booted / re-started again by itself. This happened a few times, always with low energy level of the battery. It seems that the AC power was not (high or stable ~) enough to load it. (that was my guess, because the LED, showing the battery loading, flashes)

I have MBAM on the computer (since it was helpful in the past, here on this forum), and I update & ran it from time to time. It always worked fine…

…but this time, it cannot start. It says: “Unable to connect The service” [sic!]. So I unistalled the program and re-installed, then tried again: Same failure message.

GOOD NEWS: I bought a new power supply, and the AC power issue seems to be solved now. No energy loss any more, no break down, no re-boot.

However, could you please check anyway? Just to be sure. And I still don’t know, why MBAM is not working.

Here’s the log files (aswMBR, farbar).

Happily waiting for your suggestions!

Thanks a lot!

Your PC is malware free.

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

At this point all the tools we used here should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

As for Malwarebytes, version 3 supports only 32-bit XP.

Hi,

thanks so far!! MBAM worked before, so this is new, right?

Before continuing here, there’s not so good news. Now something is really strange since yesterday:

 • After posting last night, I switched off computer. It took already longer than usually.

 • Start up today was REALLY slow: ca. 10 minutes (usually 1 - 2). Webpages open VERY slowly, everything comes with big delay. Checking my eMails took me 20 minutes!!

PLS HELP!!

Hi,

thank you for that information, that Malwarebytes doesn’t support my XP 64-bit OS anymore.

Thanks also for the good news, that my computer is malware free.

Unfortunately, after running the tools (aswMBR & farbare) yesterday, the computer is VERY slow.

 • the start-up and turn-off is maybe 3 times as before
 • opening a (SeaMonkey) browser window - maybe double
 • opening & closing eMail client (TheBat) is extremely slow now
 • everything is slow and with delay

It is like a ressource-consuming program is running in the background. However, I cannot see any.

As far as I can see, the internet connection is fine, not slower than usual.

Before doing my posting yesterday, I firstly ran an Avast “Quick scan” (though quick isn’t maybe right term). It gave 5 findings (3 Adware gen. and 2 Tr.), that were successfully deleted. After that, I wanted to run a boot-time scan. However, I skipped it after half an hour and still 0% proceeding. Could this be the problem??

Please help me restoring the former performance status of my laptop!

I am not sure: Shall I run the post-cleanup tools (delFix), that Sass Drake mentioned?

Your help is highly welcomed and really appreciated!!

Please, could you help me on this?

DelFix will remove the tools used + itselfe

Have you run CCleaner?

…not yet. Could you give a link?

Thanks!!

CCleaner >> http://www.piriform.com/

Be aware that it may install a toolbar unless you uncheck it during install

Thank you Pondus. It cleaned a lot.

Is there a tool that could check the starting-up processes of the computer? My guess is that something changed, after I ran the Avast! Boot-time scan lately. As I said, I stopped/skipped the file scanning after a while (but not brutally: this option to skip was given).

Thanks!

Hi,

still searching for what causes the delay & slow down of computer:

So I installed: Performance test 9.0 by PassMark.
(It seems a rather common test)

The overall rating result & passmark was: 156.
…but Disk mark was only 22 - which seems to be VERY LOW.

Reading speed was measured: 2.45 MB/sec
Writing speed : 2.28 MB/sec

I am not an expert, but isn’t it MUCH too low??

Any comments & suggestions welcome!!

Thanks.

…now I read - thank you, Pondus! I’ll check and further clean up…

…and try to fix the slow-drive-issue elsewhere.

You’re right, computer is malware-free, mission (here) accomplished.

Good to know that you experts are here. Thank you very much!

Thank you Sass Drake and Pondus for your help here at the Forum!

Everything is completely solved now. (The slow-down came from the hard drive running in PIO mode, instead of DMA.) Geeks to Go were helpful, too. Thanks Pondus for the tip.

Best regards.
Lillebror.
