cant scan files anymore

im running free version and been doing so for a while and all of a sudden i can right click on a file and scan it ,all that is happening is its just staying on 0% all the time ???

grovsey, does it happen when you invoke a regular scan through the main avast interface, or is it just right-click (context menu) scans?

What version of Avast are you running currently, and what Operating System?

I have same problem, I registerd to post this… :frowning:

For me, Problem is only with the “rightclick on file” and scan…
When I click Right click> Scan , I get a scan report…

Scan Complete, NO thearts found,
Run Time: 0:00:00
Tested Files/Folders: 0/0
Amount of data tested: 0B
Infected files : 0

Only happens with context menu scan though… I’m using Windows XP… And avast is 6.0.1000…

What was the file you are concerned about that you are trying to scan? If it was a temp. Internet file or a pre-fetch folder or something like this, perhaps you deleted it (for example during a cleaning) and that would explain why it is no longer there and you cannot scan it.

Safe, it’s not your day today. How can you initiate a right-click context menu scan, if the file is not there? ;D

Yes I did :D…

Update on my situation…

Uninstalled avast, restarted the system, used some random registry cleaning tool (:P), restart, installed again using 5.0.462.0 setup file… And restart one final time … and FIXED!!! Scaning with contexet menu works now!!

celbrations but wait… I try to update the program and nothing happens?? D: this day suks D: Its still on v5.0.462.0 now :frowning: Cant update virus definitions too :frowning:

You are using the free version? Click on the link “Free” in my sig and download the 6.0.1044.
Uninstall the old version prior to installing this one.
