Can't scan mapped network drives

I have Avast 4.8 Home, running on Vista x64 Home Premium. I have a NAS, and have mapped a couple network drives on Vista (eg, M: is mapped to \NAS\Media). In the Folder Selection in the simple user interface, my mapped network drives do not show up, and I can’t specify them manually in the Selected Paths box. Thus, I’m unable to scan the mapped network drives. I could do this from XP, but not Vista.

Oddly, I’m able to scan these folders using the Quick Scanner, via the explorer extension in My Computer. Unfortunately that’s not an acceptable workaround, as the “quick” scanner seems to do a full scan of the files, which is very slow given that most of the data is large media files.

My first trial scan of a mapped network folder caused the system to freeze.
OS: Vista 32 bit

Should I be able to scan mapped folders with the home (free) version?

Thx - td

trunkdog, in my experience, you should be able to scan mapped network folders. I used to do that regularly with XP (32 bit). I’m wondering if avast! has trouble with mapped drives when it’s first installed, though:

To follow up on my previous post, at some point avast! started recognizing my mapped drives. I now scan them as part of my regular full scans without problem. I’m not sure what may have changed.

I’ve just upgraded to Avast 5.0, still running on Vista Home Premium x64. And now, I cannot scan mapped network drives again. In this case, the mapped drives show up in the folder selection list; but if I select a mapped drive, the scanner fails to scan the selection, and returns this result:

Error: The system cannot find the specified path (3)

Windows CAN find the specified path. And in fact the Avast folder selection window can find the path, expand folders, etc. For some reason, the scanner cannot find the path, though.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Please try to use the corresponding UNC path, instead of the mapped drive letter.

I tried the UNC path, and that seems to work fine. Selecting the mapped drive in the browser, or typing it in manually, still fails.
