On my Windows 7 64-bit computer, on my Avast Free 7 scan’s list, all of the scans that have Scan Mode on Custom, I can’t select anything, it just won’t click! I know this is not right because on my other computer (Windows Vista 32-bit) with Avast Free 7 I can click on the “Custom” writing and it’ll let me choose Quick, Normal or Thorough but on my Win 7 it won’t let me do that. Is there something wrong with my Avast? Are my Avast settings corrupt? How do I fix it?
Well, I was thinking of installing 8, but I was unsure and was going to do some research to make sure there were no problems with it on Win 7 because that computer isn’t entirely mine and I don’t want to wreck their computer. I already have 8 on my computer though.
But if I do update it to 8 will it fix this problem, or make it worse?
Also, you said do a repair and then reboot, just to be sure, you mean go into control panel into programs and features and click uninstall to avast and then click repair??
No one can guarantee you wont get the same problem after upgrading to 8 but it’s the current version so it’s easier to troubleshoot, also I find it’s better to always clean install new versions from scratch as upgrading from one version to the next can sometimes have problems of its own.
If I do repair, will that disable Avast while its doing it? Or, if there’s somehow nothing wrong, will doing repair affect anything? I’ve never done ‘repair’ on a program before so I am unsure…
But, If I do install Avast 8, I should first uninstall Avast 7? That will leave my computer vulnerable for at least a couple of minutes… I don’t feel comfortable about that…
Downloading and installation are (with rare exceptions) totally separate operations. While you’re downloading, your old protection is still active. Once you’ve finished with that, you can disconnect and do the installation.
