Hi,
I have some attachments on an email. The first send was pretty large (but zipped) but I’ve never had problems sending large files before because I’m on cable Internet. Well, since I moved to Avast, I have found that these emails will not go out. I use Eudora email and when I hit the send button the email appears to go out until it gets to the end of the send where it hangs and never actually gets sent.
I tried breaking the file down into 2 zip files sending one at a time. Same problem. I get an error message from Eudora saying it got tired of waiting for the server.
I then tried to send 2 photos w/o zipping them. Same problem. Then tried one photo - same problem.
I really need to be able to send attachments. How do I make this work? Nothing else has changed other than switching to Avast.
Thanks,
Deb
Eddy

Increase the timeout settings in both Eudora and Avast4.ini.
Or upgrade to Avast 4.5 and see if the problem is solved.

Hi,
I’ve increased Eudora from 300 to 600 in the Advanced Network Open Time Out and the Network Time Out after. However, a search of my computer finds no reference to Avast4.ini so where do I find this and are you talking a manual edit? If so, what should I change it to?
Thanks,
Deb

Avast4.ini is in Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\ (if you installed Avast in its default folder)
I suggest you upgrade to 4.5 beta. I has a lot of fixes and some extra options and will very likely solve the problem since it handles mail in a different way.
If what Eddy said does not work (it should ::)), can you uncheck the ‘Outbound’ messages scanning into the Internet Mail provider settings and see what you get?
Instructions to avast4.ini file are on my Settings signature link.
