Well since the avastUI.exe isn’t a Shield then I would expect it to be disabled. That is how you access the User Interface and how you would enable the shields once you have completed what it is that you want to disable the shields for.
You would have to disable the self-defence module to be able to stop the avastUI.exe in the windows task manager, of course you would have needed to have the avastUI.exe tray icon running to do this.
