I have trouble starting some services to get my computer and internet to work at 100%.
About 7 months ago I have the same trouble but I don’t remember how it was solved then.
It is the services Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), Windows Management Instrumentation and Network Connections, all as you might now, are vital services to get the internet connection work properly. When I start the computer the internet connection works for about one hour, then it dies and the computer gets extremely slow. When I try to shut it down, nothing happens and I have to push the buttom and start all over again.
How is this connect with Avast? you ask, well, I think the last time it have something to do with the system files that Avast places in quarantine, kernel32.dll, wsock32.dll and winsock.dll. Maybe not but, yes…you got to ask.
When I try to restore these files it works fine with winsock.dll but the other two says:
The process cannot access the files because it it being used by another process
These files are back-ups of important system files (see below), you can’t restore them because:
a) the originals are in use and windows would have something to say about that.
b) they are for the use of the avast program only, if avast found an infection in one of the originals then ‘it could’ replace the infected original with the back-up.
So for the above reasons I believe it is unrelated to any problem in starting some services. Though I don’t have any suggestions on how to fault find those problems.
If you aren’t using the XP firewall and I suggest you should replace it as it doesn’t provide any outbound protection. That should possibly get rid of the windows firewall service error.
Try googling any associated errors in the windows event viewer.
The only area you should be interested in is the Infected Files section, this is where the files detected by avast and selected by you to move to the chest are placed.
The User Files section is where the user can add files they suspect of being malware but not detected by avast.
The System Files section is where avast keeps back-up copies of important system files in case the original becomes infected (leave them alone).
Just check and ensure that the windows firewall is actually disabled, though I would have though when comodo firewall was installed it would disable the windows firewall.
I think have a similar problem. I have those same 3 files in quarantine but cannot also find them the System32 folder from where they supposedly came. The problem is that I cannot seem restore them back to that folder (no matter what I try with Vista permissions) and in the meanwhile IE only works for a minute or 2.
Sorry I should quote… I was thinking on Doobidoo.
But that command could be run in a command-line (old DOS) window or just writing it down into the Run command window (Win+R buttons).
My problem is that IE hardly works, I think due to those three system files being moved into the Virus Vault. There are no copies of those 3 system files in the Windows System32 folder - the folder that the Avast Virus Vault shows they belong to. It seems that instead of merely coping them Avast actually moved them into the Virus Vault and now IE is screwed and I can’t get the system files back out of Virus Vault.
your hypothesis is highly unlikely as without these three vital files, your system wouldn’t even start (e.g. KERNEL32.DLL is a file on which depend absolutely all programs / services, and without which the system will definitely not boot).
Whatever is causing the IE issues, it’s not these three files in the Chest. Trust me.
Thanks, checked that, the folders were set appropriately - but the files are still not shown in the Windows System32 folder, where Avast shows them originally being located.
